New York—A Falun Gong practitioner en route to reunite with his wife in the United States “disappeared” from Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport over ten days ago and has not been heard from since, raising serious concerns over his safety. The Falun Dafa Information Center is urging the international community to take immediate action to discover his whereabouts and ensure his safety.

China’s democracy activist Guo Quan was tried at Suqian Court in Jiangsu Province on August 7, 2009, on the charge of “subverting state power.” Guo is a former associate professor at the Chinese Language and Culture School, Nanjing Normal University. His mother, Ms. Gu Xiao, a renowned writer, attended the hearing. Ms. Gu did not understand Guo Quan’s conduct before the court session; however, she felt the court hearing was like an introductory class to democracy. She shouted loudly before leaving the court: “You are great, my child! I feel proud of you.”

Mr. Lu Yuping, born in 1958, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Daxinganling, Heilongjiang Province. Because of his belief in Truth-Compassion-Forbearance, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. On May 30, 2009, he died in Tailai Prison, where he had been subjected to numerous tortures.
